Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • cup baking soda
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • Coarse sea salt for topping

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Dissolve baking soda in 4 cups of water in a large pot and bring to a simmer.
  • Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces and roll each into a rope about 24 inches long.
  • Shape each rope into a pretzel and dip in the baking soda water for 30 seconds.
  • Place pretzels on the baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
