- 1 package of phyllo dough approximately 16 oz
- 2 cups of finely chopped nuts walnuts, pistachios, or almonds
- 1 cup of unsalted butter melted
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a bowl, combine the chopped nuts and cinnamon.
Unroll the phyllo dough and cut it to fit your baking dish.
Brush the bottom of the dish with melted butter.
Lay down the first layer of phyllo dough and brush with butter.
Repeat layering 8-10 sheets, brushing each with butter.
Spread a layer of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo.
Layer more phyllo sheets (about 4-5), brushing each with butter.
Repeat the nut layer and phyllo layers until all ingredients are used.
Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
Meanwhile, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar, water, and honey for 10 minutes.
Once baklava is done, pour the syrup over it while hot.
Let it cool and absorb the syrup before serving.
