Ingredients
  

  • 1 package of phyllo dough approximately 16 oz
  • 2 cups of finely chopped nuts walnuts, pistachios, or almonds
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, combine the chopped nuts and cinnamon.
  • Unroll the phyllo dough and cut it to fit your baking dish.
  • Brush the bottom of the dish with melted butter.
  • Lay down the first layer of phyllo dough and brush with butter.
  • Repeat layering 8-10 sheets, brushing each with butter.
  • Spread a layer of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo.
  • Layer more phyllo sheets (about 4-5), brushing each with butter.
  • Repeat the nut layer and phyllo layers until all ingredients are used.
  • Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar, water, and honey for 10 minutes.
  • Once baklava is done, pour the syrup over it while hot.
  • Let it cool and absorb the syrup before serving.
